Silvestica Green Forest acquires 40,000 hectares of forestland from Norra Skog in Sweden

Silvestica Green Forest is increasing its Swedish land holdings through the acquisition of several subsidiaries of Norra Skog with associated forest land and other operations, a total of app. 40,000 hectares. The fund’s total holdings after the acquisition amount to around 110,000 hectares. The takeover will take place on December 16, 2020. The parties will not publish the purchase price or other details.

The acquisition is part of Silvestica Green Forest’s ambition to increase its land holdings in Sweden. The acquired 40,000 hectares are distributed in the counties of Norrbotten, Västerbotten, Västernorrland and Jämtland. Norra Skog will be responsible for forest management.

“The forest land acquired by Norra Skog is well-situated and managed and the land more than meets our high demands. Following the completion of the acquisition, Silvestica’s holdings total approximately 110,000 hectares distributed among the five countries around the Baltic Sea; Sweden, Finland, Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania. We look forward to a continued cooperation with Norra Skog,” says Karl Danielsson, spokesman for Silvestica Green Forest.

Silvestica Green Forest AB is a long-term forest fund for institutional investors founded by SEB, the Hesselman Foundation and CRK, in the spring of 2017. Silvestica invests in the asset class forest by acquiring forest properties in Sweden, Finland and in the Baltics.

Malaysian Timber Council names Muhtar Suhaili as new CEO

The Malaysian Timber Council (MTC) has named Muhtar Suhaili as its new CEO. He fills a position previously held by acting CEO Wong Kah Cane.

Before joining the MTC, Suhaili was the lead project engineer in Shell Malaysia where he worked for 15 years. Before that he worked for Perodua Auto Corporation Sdn Bhd. He also is chairman of the Malaysian Palm Oil Certication Council.

The MTC said he has extensive knowledge in managing mega projects, business planning, business improvement initiatives, manpower planning and human resource development. He also has experience in managing engineering design oces, having also worked in the Netherlands and Germany.

Formed in January 1992, the MTC promotes the development and growth of the Malaysian timber industry globally.

BSW acquires Building and Supply Solutions division of SCA Wood UK

BSW has acquired the Building and Supply Solutions division of SCA Wood UK, which includes the manufacture and distribution of timber and associated products to the home improvement and builders merchant sectors. This heralds the beginning of BSW’s growth strategy under the ownership of Endless LLP.

Tony Hackney, CEO of BSW, said: “We are very pleased to have agreed a common approach with SCA to acquire the UK operations, which will significantly strengthen our position with our expanding customer base. Through this acquisition, we will deliver a combined package of timber solutions adding to the security of supply for the market.”

Jerry Larsson, President of SCA, commented: “I believe the business will further develop under the ownership of BSW. We will continue to supply raw materials into the UK market via BSW Timber, in addition to our existing Industrial Solutions import and distribution operation.”

BMC Stock Holdings to acquire TW Perry

BMC Stock Holdings, Inc. (“BMC”) has entered into a definitive purchase agreement to acquire TW Perry, a premier value-added building materials supplier serving the Northern Virginia, Maryland, and D.C. markets.

The transaction is subject to the satisfaction or waiver of customary closing conditions and is expected to be completed in December 2020.

TW Perry was founded in 1911 and is an independent building materials distributor serving Northern Virginia, Maryland, D.C. and surrounding areas with six lumber yards, retail stores, a design studio, a custom millwork operation and a truss manufacturing facility. The company supplies lumber, building materials, doors and windows, hardware, decking and railing products, paint, and power tools to professional remodelers and custom builders. TW Perry generated nearly $200 million in total net sales for the twelve months ended September 30, 2020.

With $3.6 billion in 2019 net sales, BMC is one of the nation’s leading providers of diversified building materials and solutions to new construction builders and professional remodelers in the U.S.

Brazil’s wood-based product exports increased by 20.8% in September

Brazilian exports of wood-based products (except pulp and paper) amounted to $286 million in September 2020, an increase of 20.8% compared with September 2019 (when the value was $236.6 million), as ITTO reported.

Pine sawnwood exports increased in value by 35.6%, from $38.2 million in September 2019 to $51.8 million in September 2020. The export volume increased by 52.9% over the same period, from 192,400 m3 to 294,100 m3.

Year-on-year, tropical sawnwood exports rose by 1.8% in volume in September 2020, to 39,900 m3, and by 7.7% in value (to $15.4 million). Pine plywood exports leapt in value by 88% in September 2020 compared with September 2019 (from $36.1 million to $67.9 million).

In volume terms, pine plywood exports increased by nearly 50% over the same period, from 159,900 m3 to 239,500 m3.

Tropical plywood exports increased in volume by 1.7% in September, year-on-year (from 6,000 m3 to 6,100 m3), but decreased in value by 11.5%, from $2.6 million to $2.3 million.

Wooden furniture exports increased from $49.3 million in September 2019 to $51.9 million in September 2020, an increase of 5.3% over the period.
